Last week Updown took a short break so that the outside could be freshened up during the better weather.
David Witcher, who looks after all paint-related matters and whom we simply can’t do without, had arranged for a small platform to be erected by 8am on Monday morning and over the next few days he gave the front a new coat of magnolia and the windows, shutters and front door, a good lick of Farrow and Ball’s French Gray in exterior eggshell. It’s a muted grey-green and has a ‘modern-country’ feel. In some lights it take on more of the grey and in others, the green, with the depth of colour also varying throughout the day and season.
It’s also David who pops in most months to check on the state of interior decoration – those inevitable scratches and scrapes that appear are brushed over almost as soon as they arrive.
