The new trailer for the latest film version of Thomas Hardy’s ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ has just been released and shows off some of the beautiful Dorset countryside and filming locations.

The landscape has changed very little since Hardy’s time and his vision for the settings of his stories remains intact to such an extent that the Hardy Society have published a trail that can be followed around the area. It links places that he lived and wrote about and puts the novels into context.

Gold Hill was used in the original film and Shaftesbury was Shaston so you might easily be able to claim that having stayed in Updown, you have stepped back to the time of Bathsheba.
